When it comes to the principle of alternativity, we usually turn a hexagram upside down to get its reverse or mirror image. Here is another view. The hexagram should not be touched. When you get a hexagram, say by divination, you start from its initial line and climb the ladder. When you reach the top, you turn around a descend the ladder. On your way up, you see one view. On the way down, you see another. The two different views correspond to two different hexagrams connected by alternativity.
Here is an example. The hexagram on duty in 2022 was [63] After Completion. Spring showed up on February 4, 2022. We were in the initial line of [63] for the first two months. After that we moved to the 2nd line and so on. Since the time spent on each line is two months on average, we might have finished off [63] before the end of the year, that is, before February 4, 2023. Suppose we did. Then we started descending the hexagram. The view changed to [64] Before Completion. For most of 2022, we were in [63] when the pandemic was turning into an epidemic. We began our descent when the change was complete. Then we faced rebuilding the economy when [64] After Completion kicked in.
When spring arrived on February 4, 2023, we got a new hexagram [37] The Family. We were shipped from a line in [64] to the initial line of [37].
